How do I make realistic looking wine glasses made out of sugar which will taste good?
It’s nearly impossible to do such a thing at home. To make ANY sort of glass out of sugar, you need a mold to pour your sugar into, or be able to sculpt it by hand (And hot sugar can burn you very badly!)
Secondly, anything made out of sugar-glass usually tastes sweet, but bland — not like candy! And the previous poster was correct – the acid in wine will eat away the sugar and leave you with a leaky glass!
There are websites online that give you the recipes for sugar: usually water, granulated sugar, and cream of tarter or ascorbic acid. As you boil the sugar, the most important thing to do is BRUSH DOWN THE SIDES OF THE POT WITH A PASTRY BRUSH AND PLAIN WATER. As the sugar bubbles and boils, any undissolved grains of sugar can “crystallize” the whole mass of sugar, turning it from clear and viscous to hard and opaque, ruining your batch AND your pot.
