I bought a little porcelain hand-painted egg at a second hand store, how can I find out how much it’s worth?

I found this great little porcelain egg with an owl sitting on a branch hand-painted on to it. I bought it in a second hand shop where the man who owns it pretty much just makes up a price off the top of his head for the stuff in his store. I think the egg may be pretty unique and I was wondering how do I find out how much it is really worth? Is there a website I could go to? Any help is appreciated! :)

The only way to get a true estimate it to take it to a couple of different antique stores, or hire a private appraiser. It sounds like a very nice little treasure. :)

Would you buy a 60 pieces tableware set for $40?

I’m looking at the Ikea ad and they are having a sale for a 60 pieces tableware set for $40; regular price is $90. It comes with folks, spoons, places, deep dishes, wine cups, mugs and glass cups. I know that is extremely cheap. however, they only have white and I’m not a big fan of white dishes.

I figure I can buy them and use them for everyday meals and save the nice colorful plates that I have for when I have dinner parties. Any suggestion or whether or not I should buy it?

That’s a great deal if you like the stuff.

I have white ironstone, and I chose them on purpose. At Christmas I can use red and green and gold and have a Christmas table setting. At Easter, I can use a pastel print table cloth and all kinds of bunny-chickie-duckie accents.

White always works no matter what else you’re trying to do. If you have dark dishes, things like spaghetti may not look very appetizing. Put some meat loaf and green beans on maroon dish and it may look yucky. Cream colored dishes would be good too, but either of those colors opens the rest of your palette to whatever you might want for any specific occasion.

Yes you can.
Adults are not allowed to buy alcohol on behalf of under 18’s in a licensed premises. In the new licensing laws, the only exception is for 16 or 17 year olds who are allowed to drink beer, wine or cider at a meal out with adults (but they may not buy the alcohol themselves).
